Can a modular building be used as a nursery?

Yes. The building can be configured around early-years requirements — playroom size, child-height sanitary provision, secure entry, outdoor access and staff space. Registration and inspection requirements are confirmed for your setting with your local authority and Ofsted (or the equivalent body in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland).

Can it be an extension to our existing nursery?

Yes. Adding a modular room alongside an existing building is the most common use — you get the extra group space without closing the setting for a traditional build.

How much space do we need per child?

Early-years floor-area guidance varies by age group and nation, so we size the room to the numbers you are registering for. As a guide, a four-module building gives roughly 52 m² of internal space before WCs and storage are taken out.

Can the toilets be child height?

Yes — low-level WCs, low basins and a nappy-changing area are all built in, with a separate adult or accessible WC where you need one.

Does it open onto the outdoor area?

Yes. Wide doors are positioned so the playroom opens straight onto a fenced outdoor space, which is usually a requirement for free-flow play.

How quickly can it be installed?

Manufacture typically runs to weeks rather than months and installation on site is short, so most settings plan delivery for a holiday period or a quiet week.

Configured around early-years supervision and daily routine

We start with the playroom and work outwards — where the children come in, where the coats and buggies go, where staff can see the whole room from, and how the room opens onto the outdoor area. Sanitary provision, nappy-changing and the kitchen are then placed so staff are never far from the room they are supervising.

The Adacon P600 modular building measures 5.9m × 2.2m (5900mm × 2200mm) externally, with an approximate usable internal size of 5.8m × 2.1m and an internal floor area of approx. 12.18 m² per module, and costs £10,750 + VAT per module. Each module can include a kitchen, toilet, shower, internal partitions, windows, doors, lighting, sockets and a consumer unit, and modules can be joined side by side or stacked to two storeys.
