A practical teaching space for expanding schools

This four-module P600 building is configured as a single-storey modular classroom for primary and secondary schools. The modules are installed in a straight run, creating an overall footprint of 23.6m x 2.2m and approximately 49 m² of internal floor area. Its narrow, extended form can suit school sites where available space follows a boundary, playground edge or existing building line.

Each steel-framed P600 module measures 5.9m x 2.2m. The four modules are linked end to end to create one continuous building, rather than separate rooms. This arrangement supports a long teaching area that can be planned around the school’s furniture, equipment and day-to-day classroom requirements.

Module-by-module layout

Module 1 forms the western end of the classroom. Its exposed north wall has two large windows, while the south wall has two large windows positioned around a single glazed entrance door. A further large window is fitted in the exposed west end wall. This gives the building its only external door and provides glazing on three sides of the end module.

Module 2 continues the run with two large windows in the exposed north wall and two large windows in the exposed south wall. Module 3 follows the same arrangement, again providing two large windows to the north and two to the south. These matching central modules maintain a consistent pattern of glazing along both long elevations.

Module 4 completes the eastern end. It has two large windows in the north wall, two large windows in the south wall and one large window in the exposed east end wall. Across the complete configuration, the classroom has 18 large windows and one single glazed door.

Exterior finish and internal fit-out

The exterior uses smooth cladding in a timber effect, giving the classroom a more natural appearance within an education setting. A dual-pitch apex roof runs above the single-storey structure, producing a conventional pitched roof profile while retaining the speed and predictability of a modular building system.

The internal fit-out includes a WC, allowing the building to operate with its own toilet provision rather than relying entirely on facilities elsewhere on the school site. The exact positioning of furniture, teaching equipment and other site-specific items can be considered alongside the intended pupil numbers and classroom use.

Price and programme

The indicative price is £48,500 excluding VAT, or £58,200 including VAT, for the standard fitted specification. Delivery, groundworks and site-specific works are not included in this figure and are quoted separately once the location, access and installation requirements are understood. A typical lead time is 8–12 weeks. The actual programme depends on specification confirmation, site readiness, transport planning and installation access. Any required permissions and school-specific approvals should also be addressed before the planned delivery date.

Preparing the site

The building requires a suitable prepared base or foundations, clear delivery and installation access, and provision for any required service connections. Ground conditions, levels, drainage, vehicle access and lifting requirements must be assessed for the individual site. These elements are quoted separately because they vary between schools.
